یکی از کاربردهای کلمه pet
حتما با کلمه pet آشنا هستید و می دانید که یکی از رایج ترین معانی این کلمه ‘حیوان خانگی’ است، کلمه pet کاربردهای دیگری هم دارد که در این مطلب به یکی از این کاربردها آشنا می شویم.
در کاربرد دیگر کلمه pet به معنی ‘نوازش کردن’ است. این کاربرد معمولا برای حیوانات و بچه های کوچک استفاده می شود. به دو مثال برای این کاربرد pet توجه کنید:
Do you want to pet the kitty?
می خوای پیشی رو نوازش کنی؟
*کلمه kitty به معنی پیشی یا بچه گربه است که اغلب یا توسط کودکان استفاده می شود یا در زمان صحبت کردن با کودکان استفاده می شود.
I petted the baby’s hair. He was so cute!
موهای نوزاد رو نوازش کردم. خیلی ناز بود!

نکته ای در مورد sit down:
حتما با فعل ترکیبی sit down آشنا هستید و می دانید که به معنی ‘نشستن’ است؛ در زبان انگلیسی واژگان دیگری هم هستند که مترادف sit down هستند و ممکنه از افراد در هر موقعیتی ضرورتا از sit down برای بیان مفهوم ‘نشستن’ استفاده نکنند. در این مطلب به یکی از این مترادف ها خواهیم پرداخت.
یکی از متراف های sit down اصطلاح have a seat است که مثل sit down به معنی ‘نشستن’ است. اصطلاح have a seat به نسبت sit down کمی رسمی تر است.
به چند مثال توجه کنید:
Thanks for coming. Please, have a seat.
از اینکه اومدی متشکرم. لطفا بنشینید.
`I walked into her office and she told me to have a seat.
من وارد دفتر کارش شدم و او بهم گفت که بنشینم.
نکته: گاهی اوقات از take به جای have هم در این اصطلاح استفاده می شود، یعنی اصطلاح take a seat هم گاهی اوقات استفاده می شود که هم معنی have a seat است.
